Duh Dun dun dun dun dun dun…

After seeing THIS PARTY I threw for Ryan for his 3rd birthday and seeing his obsession with sharks, you can only imagine what he has been asking to be for Halloween.

Yes, A Great White Shark.
To say he is in heaven in his shark costume is an understatement.
He would wear it EVERY SINGLE DAY if I let him.
I finally had to hide it in a closet until the week of Halloween just so it would stay in one piece HA
I LOVE seeing his excitement each time he puts it on.

Aaron and I joined in; dressed like a lifeguard ( or more like threw on a lifeguard t-shirt :) and Aaron as "shark attack".

I found the perfect Nemo costume online at Toys R' US for Baby Luke and he is rocking his first Halloween.
Why is this so funny!?

#sharkbait ^^

Ryan keeps telling baby Luke "Baby Luke don't be scared! I'm a nice shark!!"
Aaron and I laugh so hard.
Gosh I love these two.

Here's to our first Halloween with 2 kids and the happiest 3 year old shark on the planet.
We have been in costumes since Monday and we are pretty dang excited for tomorrow.
Bring on the candy and cavities.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!

This past Sunday Aaron gave our little Luke the sweetest blessing at church.
He was all dressed in white and looked like a little angel!

I was a little emotional that day feeling so so grateful.
Being the girly girl I am, never in a million years did I think I would have two BOYS first and gosh they have stolen my heart.
I love my sweet family of FOUR!
Aaron and I are still getting used to the term "kids" HA we really have two kids!? Is this real life!?

Let's just pause the clock and pray time stands still.
I want to remember the little perfect lips, clenched fists, newborn grunts, and tiny fingers...
We can't get enough of him.

My new favorite picture ever  ^^ my sweet babies!

Grandchild #2 ^^

Happy blessing day baby Luke.
Pretty happy you made us a party of FOUR.

The very first thing Ryan says when he wakes up is "where is Baby Luke mommy?"
( regardless of the fact that Luke is always in the same place EVERY MORNING ha )
As soon as Luke hears Ryan's voice as he's coming into a room ( Ry likes to make an entrance so you will definitely know when he's coming ha ) he perks up wide eyed and looks around. It's so sweet.

Aaron and I were really nervous to see how Ryan would handle the "less attention" aspect of two kids.
For the most part he has been so wonderful, understanding and helpful to me with the baby.
We are so proud of him.
However the other day while he and I were playing "sharks", Luke started to cry waking up from his nap in the swing and Ryan yells "NO BABY LUKE! NOT YET! GO BACK TO SLEEP I'M PLAYING WITH MOMMY!" HA so the love is there 90% of the time :)

One of the sweetest things about these two boys is how SIMILAR they look.
Through Luke's ultrasounds while I was pregnant, we could tell they were going to look similar but I don't think we realized it would be THIS SIMILAR.
Sometimes I feel like I gave birth to twins 3 years apart.
Aaron and I have so many "de ja vu" moments of Ryan when we look at Luke especially since Luke is wearing many of Ryan's old clothes.

"Mommy, I will teach Baby Luke how to spit like this…"
Awesome.
You have a lot coming for you Luke.

Ryan's favorite new thing in the morning is to line up his posse on the couch for his daily "Daniel Tiger episode" during breakfast.
Good thing Luke made the cut for his "crew"!
Watching Luke's innocent face through the whole thing kills me.
He has no idea what's going on - he just goes with the flow!
Ryan's always been a little more "high strung" - even as a baby, so watching Luke is hilarious - Chillest little babe!

I mean really?! HA ^^

It melts my heart watching Ryan with him. He is SO sweet to him and gosh I cannot wait for the years to come of watching these two grow up together.
I am so happy they have each other.

On another note - TODAY is baby Luke's one month birthday.
We are celebrating tonight because 1 month of life is kind of a big deal.
You have us wrapped around your finger!

Post baby blues.
They are real.
I can remember like it was yesterday after having my first child ( Ryan ) and being home those first few months all alone during the day. The adrenaline from the birth has worn off and now it's "life with a newborn."
It can be a little overwhelming.

Your clothes aren't quite fitting like they used to, your body is slowly trying to get back to normal and you are trying to figure out life in your new role. Whether you are a first time mom, or adding another child to the mix it's an adjustment.

I know some people experience these "post baby blues" to the extreme and I can't say that I have been there, however, I have found myself in the past feeling a little down as I am trying to get into my "groove" again and adjust to my "new normal".

I came up with 8 things that made all the difference in how my day went!
These are all things I tried and did after having Ryan and now have done with Luke and they have worked wonderfully!

#1. OPEN THE BLINDS
I'm a HUGE believer in NATURAL LIGHT. There is something about light coming through the windows that lightens any mood. As soon as you get out of bed, head to all the blinds in your house and OPEN THEM! ( even if it's a gloomy day - OPEN THEM! )

#2. INSPIRATIONAL QUICK READ.
At my morning 7 AM feeding for Luke I try and read something inspirational for about 15 minutes. Whether it's my scriptures or an inspirational talk, it puts me in a better mood and makes me a little more motivated to take on the day.

#3. Write a list of things you want to accomplish for the day
Trust me, I have been there. Those first couple weeks of baby - you are exhausted. You feel like all you do is feed the baby plus you are in "recovery" mode and pain is being felt :) I found myself getting a little discouraged at the end of the day when I thought back on what I did that day and realized I didn't do hardly anything! Gotta love that conversation with your husband at dinner when he says "How was your day sweetheart? What did you do??" While you pause and think … "What DID I do today!? … NOTHING!" …. Awesome.
It's a little depressing! And although you feel that way - Just remember that YOU are doing the best thing you can be doing! You are taking care of that sweet baby that is SO dependent on you for everything.
So I started making a list. The list included things like "Take a shower, put the sheets in the wash, go for a walk, eat 3 servings of vegetables today, etc. ALL things that were around the house and "DOABLE" with a newborn. They weren't big hard things, they were ( kind of dumb ) small little things that I could "CROSS" off my list at the end of the day and even though I never left the house, made me feel "accomplished."

#4. EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST
The healthier the breakfast, the better you will feel for the day.

#5. GO ON A WALK
Whatever you do, get some fresh air. Those first few months of having a newborn can get pretty stir crazy! Try and get some vitamin D if possible! It works miracles!

#6. TALK TO SOMEONE
Okay ladies! Texting doesn't COUNT! Talking to a newborn is kind of like talking to a brick wall. Although they are so cute and cuddly... they are not talking back to you. I found it so therapeutic to talk to someone every day! Whether it is your spouse ( who spends his lunch break on the phone with me :) , your mom, ( who I sometimes call multiple times a day ) or a good friend, try and find time to talk to someone. It will help relieve stress and is good for the soul!

#7. SHOWER
Shower is a given. You feel SO much better after a shower. ( I know they are hard to come by because taking care of a newborn is a lot of work! But try and plan it into your day!! I take one right after I feed Luke at my 7 AM feeding. He's happy at that time, Ryan's not awake yet, and Luke will sit in his bouncer and listen to the water while I shower ) I'm going to add in "drying your hair". There is something therapeutic to me about a blowdryer. Even though 80% of the time I don't make it to my make up for my daily getting ready routine, blowdrying my hair makes me feel somewhat "ready" for the day and CLEAN.

#8. HAVE A CLEAN HOUSE ( CLUTTER FREE )
If I wake up to a clean house, my day goes a million and one times better. One way I make sure to always wake up to a clean house is called our "10 minute pick up." Each night before Ryan goes down to bed we all do a 10 minute house pick up. ( sometimes it takes 20 minutes HA but we still call it the 10 minute pick up - makes it sound not as bad :) All the toys, clothes, and clutter that have accumulated throughout the day are put away and the house is clean ( or at least clutter free ). Ready for a new day.

Let's be honest, I don't always get to all 8 of them… by if I work towards getting them done each day my day goes 1 million times better!
And most of all… Remember that YOU are doing the best thing you can be doing!
Even when you feel like "you are doing it all wrong" ( as most days I feel! )
Don't be too hard on yourself.
Time passes so quickly. Don't wish time away and squeeze these newborns close! XO
Bath time is one of my favorite times of the day.
A fresh smelling newborn!? But really, there is nothing that compares to the sweetness!
Our good friends sent us this awesome PUJ tub for infants as a gift!
AHHH I wish I would have had one for Ryan! Luke loves it and it makes it so much easier to bathe your baby! ( good thing to put on your wish list for all you mamas! )

Ryan loves being my  "helper" and is a really really good one to say the least!
He did pour water all over Luke's face a couple times on "accident". HA
Poor little Luke, such a trooper. He deserves a medal and he's only 3 weeks old.

I am still a little starstruck I have TWO kids. WHAT?!
I finally feel like I'm kind of getting into a rhythm…. kind of HA.
Love these sweet babies of mine!

Holding my finger ^^ My heart!

Ryan insisted on wearing an old Halloween costume to bake Halloween cookies with me.
His 3 year old brain is so into the "play pretend" stage and I love watching his little imagination run wild.

He wanted to be my "puppy" for the day and when I responded "of course you can be my puppy!" - I didn't realize he would actually take it literally!
He followed me around all morning barking and crawling like a dog… ( never went out of character! )

When nap time hit goodness, I was more than ready to have "my puppy" fall asleep for a couple hours HA
Spot ( our fake dog ) of course followed him every where he went, he even "frosted" sugar cookies with us too.
Flour covered my kitchen floor and we hit a little sugar high that morning but we somehow ALL managed to take a nap around 2 PM ( baby included! )
Hallelujah!!
( even though Ryan told me multiple times that morning that "dogs don't need to take naps" HA,
good try child! )

"Mommy, my arms are tired!" ^^ HA working on our muscles over here rolling out cookie dough.

^^ Waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven ^^ Kills me.

And for my all time favorite soft sugar cookie recipe! My mom made these for us growing up and I hope to always make them for my kids! Such a fun tradition with each holiday!

SOFT SUGAR COOKIES

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine ( I use all butter - no margarine )
1 egg
1 cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a large bowl cream butter and margin together.  Add egg and mix.  Add powdered sugar and beat well. Add remaining ingredients, except frosting, and mix. On a floured surface, roll out dough. Add additional flour if dough is too sticky.  Cut dough into desired shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.  Cool on wire rack and frost with Cream Cheese Frosting ( see below )

^^ Ryan's cookies have no shortage of sprinkles.. That's what I'm talking about child! ^^

( THE BEST ) CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1 ( 8-ounce ) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream the softened cream cheese; blend with butter. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat well!

Here's to October with a 3 year old.
I'm kind of in heaven!
