Oh heyyyyy....

It's been awhile since I have poked in on here.

I'm 27 months now and kind of a big deal around here.
But I guess, I have always been a big deal around my house.

Mommy says I'm pretty smart now.
I know my ABC's and I can count to 20 ALL by myself!

Life has been pretty sweet lately.
Did my mommy tell you we are building a new house?
I call it "Yayan's new house".

I'm pretty "happpyyyy" about it.
Mommy says once we finally get into my new room I can have a big boy bed.
They still keep me in that dang crib.
Mommy's convinced I'm going to be her baby forever.

I decided to keep my cool in Nursery at church the last couple weeks
and not completely freak out when mommy left me there.
I finally figured out that she's always going to come back and get me.

Come on mom. I got this.

Mommy and Daddy took me to pick out my very own tree for my room.
It was a hard choice.

They even let me choose my first ornament.
There was so many to choose from.
I licked an "ice cream cone" ornament because it looked so good, and mommy got mad at me.
"aht the heck!" I said. = "What the heck" ( My new favorite phrase )
How was I supposed to know it was fake!???

I chose Thomas the Train for my ornament. What else is new?!?

Check these dudes out.
What a bore!
I had to sit through this Law thing for my daddy.
Good thing I had snacks.

Saturday night is the coolest.
Mommy and Daddy let me stay up an hour past my bedtime and we have movie night.
All I ever ask to watch is "Cars" or "Mater's Tall Tales".
This is me eating my popcorn.

I decided to start calling mommy "honey" because that's what my daddy calls her.
And I think everything daddy does is cool.
Every morning she comes in to get me from my crib and I say "hi Honey!"

She likes it but, let's be honest, she likes everything I say.

Mom and I like to chill on the driveway and play cars.
We have races down the hill to see which of my hot wheels are the fastest.
Lightening Mcqueen wins every time.
He's the coolest.

Speaking of Lightening Mcqueen, all I want for Christmas is Mater.
Mom says I have to be a really good boy.

What else....hmmmm
Oh ya!
The other day I made quite the scene when I threw a chunk of dog poop.
I thought it was a rock and mommy saw me chucking it across the road.
It was sticky and pretty dirty and mommy told me "it aint no rock!"
Mommy made me wash my hands 5 times and put on clean clothes.

She says the dog poop episode wasn't as bad as me soaking my toothbrush in the toilet and then sucking off the water episode.
That may go down in history as my biggest dirty trick yet.

P.S. I really like this whole Christmas thing.
Santa is one cool dude and mommy says we are going to sit on his lap soon.
I don't know if I want to touch him but maybe I will give in if he has a treat.
Either way I pray at night in my prayers that he can bring me Mater for Christmas.

Well, that's all for now! BYYYYYEE!!
Once upon a time,
3 1/2 years ago,

We caravanned on a 3 day trip with Aaron's parents and a big Uhaul with all of our stuff from Provo, Utah to Houston, Texas for his Law schooling.

I was a young little thing.
20 years old to be exact.
Little me had never lived outside of Utah.
( my family lived in Europe for a couple years when I was 6 but I can hardly remember so that doesn't count HA )

The "unknown" of this big move scared me to death.

Leaving my family, friends, and everything I knew was so terrifying.

I remember those first few months feeling so alone.

Aaron had a lot on his plate with school and work so he was gone quite a bit.
Plus we live about 45 minutes outside of Houston so he commuted about 2 hours a day ( with traffic ) to school and back making the days that much longer.

So there I was, all by myself every day just trying to find my way around town.
We live in a forest - But really though. Literally a forest.
There are huge trees everywhere, it's completely flat, and every street looks the same as the next.
It's beautiful but SO hard to know where you are.
For the first 6 months I got lost almost every single day.
( did not have an I-phone yet HA )

I still remember the first day I found the mall ALL on my own and called Aaron in tears, I was so proud of myself!

During his first few months of his school,
I prayed and prayed to find friends and to meet new people.
And by surprise, I got pregnant with Ryan.

He is my angel baby.

A complete answer to my prayers.

Next to my husband, Ryan is the best thing that ever happened to me.
I know for a fact he was sent to me at that time, for that specific reason.
He sent me a mini clone of my husband.

Ryan got me through every late night and became my best little buddy.

Aaron balanced being a husband,
a dad,
going to class,
pounding 4+ hours of homework a day,
AND working
and somehow did it all.

Ryan and I lived for every spare minute we got with him.
We cherished every second.

We celebrated every test, every semester end, and every year end to the absolute fullest.

I remember not being able to imagine what it would feel like to be completely DONE with school.
I can tell you - it doesn't feel real!
I am still waiting for someone to pour water on my face and wake me up from a dream.

Looking back on the last 3 years I can see how much I have grown,
how much we have grown together,
and how much it has strengthened all aspects of life.

It's been a complete blessing and I'm so grateful for the whole experience.

Aaron was sworn in by the Texas Supreme Court of Justice last weekend.

He is finally an official Attorney,
and Fulfilled his dream he has had since he was young.

I am so proud of him.
He is the hardest worker I know and deserves every bit of credit for this day.

Thanks for all the memories Law School!
For the experiences had, the friends made, and proving that "hard things" are possible,
you blessed our life for the better.
So I was feeling really bad that only ONE person got to win a Christmas Card on my last giveaway,

Happy Monday lovelies! XO

Just random tangent to start out with...
The other night on date night we got stuck in Anthropologie ( I wonder who's fault that was HA )
I fell in love with their darling mitts and aprons!
THIS ONE kind of stole my heart.
Not sure if it's functional but I told my husband I would feel cute cooking.

On to the topic for today.
So I was reading health articles the other day....
( just because that's what I like to do in my spare time #coolkid )

I read that the average American gains 5-10 pounds during Thanksgiving and Christmas....
YOU GUYS!
Because I'm slightly passionate about this kind of stuff it makes my heart SO sad!

I believe this slight increase on the scale starts when those leaves fall....
So rewind to the beginning of FALL.
I LOVE fall.
Don't get me wrong.
I love the cool crisp air, finally being able to wear boots, the leaves, the goodies... everything about it.

HOWEVER, for some reason, the season of FALL makes it easier to gain weight.

You somehow justify making treats all week and eating way too many pumpkin goodies but
you tell yourself it's ok, because "IT'S THE HOLIDAYS!" ( and it's not swimsuit season )
Pretty sure I'm guilty of this!

Maybe you don't feel that way, ( and if you don't, you are superman )
but I feel the need to make desserts constantly.
Pinterest I could punch you!

These night time munchies are DANGEROUS.

I have the biggest sweet tooth.
I'm the type of person that eats something salty and has to have something sweet right after or my taste buds can't take it!

Ask my husband,
It's bad.

SO, I have to force myself to cut off the sweets at night time.

Before I address this topic, Let me first say, that IT IS the Holidays!
I'm not some crazy fanatic that is going to tell you to not eat sweets for 3 months.
It is my favorite time of year and should be enjoyed to the fullest!
HOWEVER, just because it's the Holiday's doesn't mean that you "let yourself go".
You will pay for it when January comes around.

As long as everything is in moderation... You will be just fine.

Lets talk about the danger that puts on those pounds!
I call it "Nighttime Munchies"
You are generally not active in the evening which causes ALL those calories sit with you all night long
and convert into fat over night.
Don't think about it too hard, HA it's kind of gross.

I give myself the weekend to splurge but try and stay as good as I can in the week so that if I gain a pound or 2 over the weekend it can usually come off in the week if I'm strict with myself. HA
It's this crazy cycle that works for me and my body.

ANYWAYS....Here are my 5 tricks and tips.

#1. Cut eating at 7:30 or 8 ( at the latest )

Try and cut off eating about 3 hours before you go to bed.
This is hard.
Especially when you are watching a good show and want a snack....
But I promise, you will feel a million times better in the morning.
You won't go to bed full or bloated and you will wake up hungry.
( I LOVE waking up hungry HA )
I try and do this Monday through Thursday.
Makes all the difference.

#2. Have 5 different kinds of gum in your house

So now you are asking - well what do I do if I get the munchies after 8 PM?!
"EXTRA" dessert delight gum is my nighttime best friend.
My personal favorite is the Key Lime Pie gum.
I also love the Watermelon.
As soon as 7:30 hits I will throw a piece of gum in my mouth.
I like the sweet gum at night because it makes me feel like I'm eating something sweet.

#3. DRINK WATER

This is key.
Sometimes your body thinks you are hungry but in all reality, you are just thirsty.
99 percent of Americans DO NOT drink enough water.

Water will fill you up after enough glasses ha trust me.

**ALSO! Secret tip : Sometimes I make crystal light lemonade at night.
It's 0 calories and 0 sugar and the taste is enough to make it feel like I'm having something sweet.

#4. Brush your teeth

I brush my teeth at about 8 o clock.
No one wants to brush their teeth twice in a row.
HA plus things don't taste as good one you have a toothpaste mouth.

#4. Give yourself one or two nights a week to "TREAT yourself"

So if I know I am having a dinner with friends or going out on a date with my husband,
I will set aside those nights as my "treat" nights.
Still enjoy the holiday goodies but in moderation on certain days of the week.
It will help you get through the "strict nights" of the week if you have good treats to look forward too:)

For example. Thanksgiving is next Thursday.
Meaning Monday through Wednesday will be strict - no late night snacks -
and Thankgiving is obviously FREE DAY!
I'm doing it, so you guys better do it with me!

That all being said, there are some nights where you just need snacks.
I wish I could say I followed that strict nighttime eating regiment 7 days a week but I DON'T.
So here are my top favorite snacks that cure the sweet tooth without the fat, sugar and calories.

POPCORN :
Believe it or not but popcorn is one of the best snacks you can eat!
Don't get all excited and think it's the movie theater kind - HA no.
The healthy kind. I really like the "Smart Balance" brand.
( but there are lots of "light" popcorn options )
** Just make sure you are buying the 94% fat free.

I LOVE popcorn because....
A. You can eat A LOT for a small amount of calories!
( For half the bag of popcorn (( which is like 200 popcorn kernals! HA )) it's only 110 calories and 2 grams of fat )
B. It has awesome amounts of fiber.
C. and maybe the biggest one - it's no sugar. So it makes me feel like I'm having a treat without putting excess sugar in my body.

FRUIT with a little Vanilla yogurt
This is a good option ( without the fat ) if you have a sweet tooth!
My favorite vanilla yogurt is the "Dannon light and fit vanilla yogurt"
( I buy the big 4 serving carton of it every week )

NONFAT PUDDING
Also a good option ( without the fat ) if you have a sweet tooth!
I love the white chocolate kind!

APPLE and Peanut butter
Apples are super sweet and it's proven that they make you feel full and satisfy the sweet tooth!
I like them with a little peanut butter.

Small bowl of cereal
OK I LOVE cereal. Aaron and I are obsessed.
Cereal gets a little dangerous because it doesn't fill you up.
Meaning you can eat 2 servings easily, which is about 250 calories ( with the milk ) and not feel full.
Be careful. Measure out one serving and call it quits.

** If anyone wants advice on getting carried away with cereal, just call my husband.
He understands the danger.
You should see his mile high bowls of frosted flakes.

SIDE NOTE : If you are going to have dessert, it is better for you to have it earlier than later.
The later it gets, the more dangerous those calories are.
Just remember that.

Seriously guys think of me when you want a treat at 10 PM and stick a piece of gum in your mouth.
It will be worth it!

Happy Friday!
XOXO

He luckily did NOT fall off and bump his head.

But he did stay up way too late,
2 hours past his wonderful bedtime of 8.

He wore his Christmas pj's and laughed so hard he cried,
Until he started to rub those sleepy eyes...

One little monkey,
all tuckered out,

Sweetest little boy in the world...
No doubt.
I apologize for my short absence,
I have been living up every moment with my sweet mamma!
My mom flew in to Houston this past week.
Sometimes you just need a little boost in life :) and she came to hang out with me for 4 days.

Talk about a really REALLY happy boost.

Moms are the best.

We Christmas shopped our lives away ( my mother - in - law and mom combined are dangerous! ) laughed way too much, and ate a lot of really good food.

We miss her already.

Weather wise, it went from being in the 70's to 50 degrees!
( in the 30's at night time! )
Which trust me, for Houston, is no joke people.

All of the sudden... it's FREEZING!!

I know we are weak sauce when it comes to the cold in the south but seriously with the humidity in the air - the cold bites to the bone!
I secretly like it because I can finally layer all my clothes.
We pulled out our beanies and winter coats this last week!

We just got home ( as we speak ) from a short road trip!
My sweet husband was sworn in as an OFFICIAL TEXAS ATTORNEY in Austin, TX TODAY!

Um it was pretty dang cool.
( more to come on that )

I'm like the proudest wife ever.
I can't believe we are done.

Gosh I love these two.
And yes, Ryan is still missing his "fang" teeth. LAST TWO LEFT!!!
HA Aaron and I are making bets on him still teething at 6 years old.

Here's to bundling up tonight and my husband bracing for my ice cold toes in bed.
HA.
But seriously.

Every one stay warm!!!
XO

P.S. ONE last day to enter the Custom design Christmas card giveaway!

Aaron and I about had a heartattack this weekend when we turned down our future street and saw the tip of our house rooftop!

We couldn't believe it was OURS.
WHAT?!

Goodness, we are so excited.

Anyone that has built before knows that it's quite the process
SO seeing the frame almost finished is kind of a big deal.

Here's to listening to my first Christmas song while running today,
Making THESE yummy things for the 3rd week in a row,
and listening to HER on repeat.

Our dearest family friends that we stayed with a couple weeks ago in Austin,
came to HOUSTON for Halloween weekend and stayed with us.
Time with them was perfect and we had so much fun.

Poor Ryan was a little sad just from not feeling good, but perked up when we decided to take the kiddos to Old Macdonalds Farm.

Even though there were only about 5 pumpkins left in the pumpkin patch,
( seriously sad looking pumpkin patch HA )
the excitement lived on with our toddlers.

Clearly the 5 pumpkins left didn't phase Ryan.

Ryan's favorite part of the whole day was the "choo Choo train" that he rode about 20 times.
Literally.

The weather is beyond beautiful and I kinda wish it could stay 70 degrees forever.

Every time we got off he cried and asked to go again.

That train driver was waving to me by the end of the day HA.

I know Ryan looks a little confused in these pictures but I promise he was in heaven,
he just didn't feel too good.

At least I look excited about it.

Nice form babe.

Old Mac's farm lived up to it name and had TONS of animals for the kids to feed.

He really liked the sheep.

And he was a little champ feeding all of them until...

baby goat decided to eat his shirt and not let go.
Scared him to death.

He still tells me about it almost every day.
"Mamma, Pet goat, eat shirt" Awesome.
Goat, he may never go in an animal pen again because of you.

And just because they are hilarious.
I don't know if it was Emperor's New Groove or what but I think these animals are hilarious.

And just another train ride in the books.

Aaron and I really like this photobomb of a child :)

Old Mac, You did not disappoint!
One really good Saturday.
