Spot bakes Halloween cookies ( with THE BEST sugar cookie recipe )

Ryan insisted on wearing an old Halloween costume to bake Halloween cookies with me.
His 3 year old brain is so into the "play pretend" stage and I love watching his little imagination run wild.

He wanted to be my "puppy" for the day and when I responded "of course you can be my puppy!" - I didn't realize he would actually take it literally!
He followed me around all morning barking and crawling like a dog… ( never went out of character! )

When nap time hit goodness, I was more than ready to have "my puppy" fall asleep for a couple hours HA
Spot ( our fake dog ) of course followed him every where he went, he even "frosted" sugar cookies with us too.
Flour covered my kitchen floor and we hit a little sugar high that morning but we somehow ALL managed to take a nap around 2 PM ( baby included! )
Hallelujah!!
( even though Ryan told me multiple times that morning that "dogs don't need to take naps" HA,
good try child! )

"Mommy, my arms are tired!" ^^ HA working on our muscles over here rolling out cookie dough.

^^ Waiting for the cookies to come out of the oven ^^ Kills me.

And for my all time favorite soft sugar cookie recipe! My mom made these for us growing up and I hope to always make them for my kids! Such a fun tradition with each holiday!

SOFT SUGAR COOKIES

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine ( I use all butter - no margarine )
1 egg
1 cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a large bowl cream butter and margin together.  Add egg and mix.  Add powdered sugar and beat well. Add remaining ingredients, except frosting, and mix. On a floured surface, roll out dough. Add additional flour if dough is too sticky.  Cut dough into desired shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheets at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.  Cool on wire rack and frost with Cream Cheese Frosting ( see below )

^^ Ryan's cookies have no shortage of sprinkles.. That's what I'm talking about child! ^^

( THE BEST ) CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1 ( 8-ounce ) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream the softened cream cheese; blend with butter. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and beat well!

Here's to October with a 3 year old.
I'm kind of in heaven!
